The surgical instrument (18) may be coupled to an actuator assembly (14) and inserted into a cornea. The actuator assembly (14) may be coupled to the foot pedal (12) by a cable (16). The foot pedal (12) may include a platform (20) that can be depressed by a surgeon to move the cable (16) and actuate the surgical instrument (18).
