PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy the requests of high catalyst performance to efficiently purify exhaust gas and of high temperature durability to be not degraded or damaged by high-temperature heat of the exhaust gas, in an exhaust gas purifying pipe-shaped catalyst consisting of a pipe-shaped catalyst support which is made from a metal pipe and such cylindrical metal foil housed in the metal pipe that plural recessed parts dimpled inward in the radial direction are continuously formed in the circumferential direction, where the catalyst material is deposited at least on the metal foil of the catalyst support, or the like. SOLUTION: The metal foil 12 is housed in the metal pipe 11 along the inner peripheral surface excluding the central part 16 in the cross-section of the pipe 11 so that the area of the central part 16 in the cross section, where the foil 12 does not exist, accounts for 20-60% of the whole cross-sectional area 100% partitioned by the inner peripheral surface.
