摘要 A mounting for a friction element in an automotive disc brake 110 has resilient biasing means 140 to bias a slidable friction element 116 generally outwardly with respect to the axis of rotation of a brake disc 112. A backing plate 122 has concave recesses (174,176 fig 3) receiving convex profiles of a guide means 118. Thus the need for tight tolerances between friction element 116 and guide means 118 is reduced by causing the biasing means to take up the tolerance gap which would otherwise be closed by the turning moment exerted on the friction element by the disc when braking commences. The biasing means may be a torsion spring 142 having a central slot (fig 3) or a coiled wire torsion spring (192, fig 4). The invention may be applied to either spot-type disc brake or brakes having annular disc frictional elements.
