A valve timing adjusting device, comprising a housing (31) formed integrally with a timing pulley (30) driven by a crankshaft, a shoe housing (33) connected to the housing (31) and having a plurality of shoes (33a) installed projectedly on its inner peripheral surface, and a rotor (34) which is stored rotatably in the shoe housing (33), divides the spaces between the plurality of shoes (33a) into retard angle hydraulic chamber (35) and advance angle hydraulic chamber (36) through a plurality of vanes (34a) installed projectedly on its outer peripheral surface, and allowed to be connected co-axially to a camshaft (2), wherein a projected part (46) projected axially is provided on the contact surface of the rotor (34) with the housing (31), and a recessed part (47) fitted closely to the projected part (46) is provided in the contact surface of the housing (31) with the rotor (34).
