PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device to prevent an accident that a hand of a worker is carelessly caught and injured by a reinforcing bar bender. SOLUTION: In the reinforcing bar bender which is provided with a drive motor to be turned ON-OFF by a foot switch, and bend a reinforcing bar by turning a force-applying arm to be driven by the drive motor around a support roller provided on a work table, the rotating direction of the drive motor is reversed if the foot switch is further stepped in or the foot is detached therefrom when the drive motor is driven in the forward direction. When a danger of a finger being caught is sensed and the foot switch is operated, the drive motor is driven in the reverse direction, the force applying arm is returned to the direction of the original position, and the finger is prevented from being caught and injured by the bender.
