PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and easy-to-manufacture light emitting element for use in an electrophotographic printer and an emissive display, with the light emission output of the light emitting element being corrected for aged deterioration of the light emitting element and variations in characteristics. SOLUTION: A light emitting part 1 and a light detecting part 2 for detecting the emission output of light emitted by the light emitting part 1 are formed on the same substrate 10 and a portion of the light emitted by the light emitting part 1 impinges on the light detecting part 2. A light emission output control means comprising a thin-film transistor (TFT) 3 or the like corrects the light emission output of the light emitting part 1 based on the detection output of the light detecting part 2. The desired light emission output can be stably obtained irrespective of aged deterioration of light emission means and a difference in characteristic between the individual light emission means. Also, processes such as positioning and bonding are not required during assembly, as are necessary for an arrangement such that the light emitting part 1 and the light detecting part 2 are constructed as independent parts and assembled together. Therefore, an increase in manufacturing cost and decreases in yields and reliability can be prevented. |
