PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a whole device small and compact and improve its handling property, working efficiency and convenience in use. SOLUTION: A printer comprises a feeding mechanism 2 arranged in the front part Mf of a device body Mm for supplying paper P, a front stage carrying mechanism 4 for carrying the paper P supplied form the feeding mechanism 2 to the rear part Mr of the device body Mm, a printing mechanism 5 printing the paper P carried by the front stage carrying mechanism 4 with a printing head 6 and an ink ribbon 7 arranged thereunder, a rear stage carrying mechanism 8 for U-turn carrying the paper P printed by the printing mechanism 5 via a laterally-U-shaped carrying passage T, and a discharge tray mechanism 9 arranged on the upper face part Mu of the device body Mm around the rear stage carrying mechanism 8 for receiving the paper P discharged from the rear stage carrying mechanism 8.
