PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine capable of preventing the occurrence of the warp of a boring means in a cutter chamber to the utmost. SOLUTION: First and second shield machines are used to drill a tunnel from both sides, and the first and second shield machines are connected in the ground in this tunnel construction method. A cut-off block 2e is provided on a bulkhead 2c communicatably or closably between a cutter chamber 2d and the bulkhead 2c, and the height adjusting device 15 of a boring means 7 is provided in the cut-off block 2e so that the height of the boring means 7 inserted into the water stop block can be freely adjusted. Since the boring means 7 is horizontally supported in the cut-off block 2e by the height adjusting device 15, it is horizontally supported reliably up to a cutter after leaving the cut-off block 2e, and its tip is prevented from being warped downward by its tare weight.
