PURPOSE: A chelate catalyst for polymerizing olefin is provided for generating homogeneous branches within polymer chains and having narrow distribution of molecular weight range by using the catalyst as main catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A chelate catalyst for olefin polymerization consists of liquid titanium compound chelate bonded by imidazole legand. A method for polymerizing olefin is achieved by using the chelate catalyst as main catalyst under the presence of magnesium halide compound and organic metal aluminium compound. The olefin polymerization method has narrow distribution range of molecular weight and produce homogeneous branches within polymer chains. The imidazole based chelate legand is selected from benzimidazole, imidazole, benzotriazole, gramine or derivatives thereof.
