PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water absorbing material capable of moderately and effectively absorbing the exudation of drips in various kinds of foods and respective sites of the foods by providing a pump means for positively absorbing water and a tank means for retaining the absorbed water to a prescribed amount without releasing the absorbed water to the outside. SOLUTION: This water absorbing material is obtained by respectively covering both the front and the back surfaces of a water absorbing film consisting essentially of a polyoxyethylene-based polymer having a recurring unit represented by, e.g. the formula [AXAY] [A is represented by the formula ((a), (b) and (c) are each an integer of >=1; Z is a hydrocarbon); X is a residue of an organic compound having 2 active hydrogen groups; and Y is a residue or the like of a compound of dicarboxylic acids] with semipermeable films different in permeation performances such as cellophane or polyvinyl alcohol. Thereby, the resultant water absorbing material has a pump means for positively absorbing water and a tank means for retaining the absorbed water to a prescribed amount without releasing the absorbed water to the outside.
