PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device is provided to reduce loading of main word line(MWL) drivers by arranging the main word line drivers distributively to prevent delay of speed of the main word lines. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor memory device has a plurality of memory arrays(31), the first main word line(MWL) driver(32), the second MWL driver(33), the third MWL driver(34), an array controller(not shown) and Y-decoders(35) and main amplifiers(36). The first MWL driver(32) is positioned on one side of the memory arrays(31). The second MWL drivers(33) and the third MWL driver(34) for sub word line drivers are positioned on other side and central part of the memory arrays(31). In the first, second and third MWL drivers(32,33,43), one word line is activated by activating a MWL driver signal in other to read data of defined memory cells.
