PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject heat treatment oven and a method for producing carbon fiber using the oven, capable of improving carbon fiber productivity through enabling the production cost to be cut in both flameproofing treatment and carbonizing treatment steps in the carbon fiber production process including cutting exhaust gas treatment cost and reducing electricity consumption. SOLUTION: This heat treatment oven for producing carbon fiber has such a scheme that, fiber bundles F are traveling inside a baking chamber 3 set up inside the oven body 2 of a flameproofing oven 1; the inside of the oven body 2 is disposed with a heater 5 as fiber bundle heating device and a fan 4, both of them heat and circulate the gas inside the oven body, introducing the gas into the baking chamber 3; upstream of the heater 5, a direct flame combustion equipment 6 is disposed, heating the gas inside the oven body to mitigate the heating load by the heater 5 along with burning toxic gas contained in the gas inside the oven body, resulting in reducing exhaust gas generation.
