PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum valve capable of strongly magnetically driving an arc from just after the generation of the arc even when the arc is generated at any position of a contact face of an electrode, improve breaking performance. SOLUTION: In this vacuum valve, a windmill-shaped electrode 1 has plural windmill parts 4 on the center side divided by plural spiral grooves 2 from a center part to the periphery; and contact parts 3 on the periphery side divided by the grooves 2, thicker than the windmill parts 4. A magnetic flux density acting on an arc generated in the contact part 3 when breaking a current as driving force developed by a current flowing into the contact part 3 through the windmill part 4 of the electrode 1 on one side. A component parallel to a contact surface of its own electrode 1 with a foot part of the arc, of the magnetic flux density acting as the arc driving force is 0.01 Tesla or more to a current of 1 kA at any position of the contact surface in a range of 0.5 mm from the contact surface.
