PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated storage and retrieval system for a long size article exclusive for the long size article such as a shape and a pipe. SOLUTION: This system has a rack device, a stacker crane 20 provided movably right and left in the front of the rack device, and a warehousing/ shipping station 11 provided near to the rack device. An article storage shelf 7 of the rack device, an article supporting member 25 provided movable before and behind on the elevating mount 23 of the crane 20, and article placing mounts 15 provided on the station 11 are constituted of at least three supporting bars 6 positioned at given intervals in right and left direction for supporting a long- size article W the longitudinal direction of which is directed in the right and left direction; and the bar 6 for constituting the member 25 is made movable vertically between the bars 6 for constituting the shelf 7 and the mounts 15.
