PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric field emission display device using a carbon nanotube film easy to manufacture, with uniform luminance and large area as an electron emission source. SOLUTION: On a substrate 41, a plurality of cathode electrodes 42 of strip forms parallel one another are formed and carbon nanotube films 43 are deposited as electron emission materials on the electrodes 42. Grid electrodes 45 are located on a lower surface of a grid plate 46 isolated from the substrate 41. When data signals and scan signals are impressed on each of the cathode electrodes 42 and the grid electrodes 45, electrons are emitted from the carbon nanotube films 43 in response to electric field by impression. Electrons are properly deflected by second grid electrodes 47, 48, electrons collide with the desired picture element of a fluorescent material layer 50 provided on a lower surface of a screen plate 51 and electrons emit light and thereby an image is displayed.
