A security cabinet (2) contains a number of reception regions in which security boxes (4a,4b) may be received. Each security box includes a delivery means (8a-8d, figure 1 and 100,102, figure 5) via which a spoiling agent may be passed into the security box to deliberately spoil its contents. A sensor (26, figure 2) is included to detect attempts to breach the security of the cabinet, such as opening of the door (52, figure 4) or the removal of a security box. The sensor communicates with a controller (20, figure 2) which in turn initiates the delivery of the spoiling agent to the security boxes when a security breach is detected. In an alternative embodiment the security cabinet described may be incorporated into an automatic teller machine (ATM).
