PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a specific group derived from an amino saccharide, excellent in water solubility and stability without losing an efficacy such as a cell activation and wrinkle-improving effect, etc., and capable of being blended stably in an external preparation composition such as a beautifying liquid, cosmetic material or external preparation for skin. SOLUTION: This stabilized retinoic acid is a compound of the formula [R1 is an amino saccharide residue obtained by removing the amino group from an amino monosaccharide, amino disaccharide or amino oligosaccharide bonding with nitrogen at other than an anomeric position; and R2 is H, a (substituted) 1-8C alkyl], e.g. D-2-N-retinoylglucosamine. The compound of the formula is obtained by a method of reacting e.g. a nitrogen-containing saccharide or its derivative containing a blocking group, etc. with retinoic acid in the presence of a dehydrating agent. The compound is useful for a cosmetic lotion, milky lotion, pack agent, etc.
