摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device low in production cost and having good display quality that the distribution of luminance on the plane is improved than the distribution of luminance of a surface light source by controlling the distribution of transmittance in the plane of the liquid crystal display device to satisfy specified conditions so as to compensate the distribution of luminance in the surface light source. SOLUTION: This device consists of an active matrix liquid crystal display device 3 and a surface light source 1. In the liquid crystal display device 3, a liquid crystal composition is held via an alignment layer between an electrode substrate and a counter substrate, and a pixel part arranged in a matrix on the electrode substrate and having switching elements surrounded by a plurality of video signal lines and scanning signal lines is formed. In the device, the distribution of transmittance of the liquid crystal display device 3 is controlled to satisfy the formula of Xmax/Xmin>Zmax/Zmin so as to suppress the distribution of luminance of the surface light source 1. In the formula, Xmax and Xmin represent the maximum and minimum of luminance in the surface light source in the display region, respectively, and Zmax and Zmin represent the maximum and minimum of the luminance of the liquid crystal display device, respectively.
