The pipeline blocking device has a holder (4) secured within the pipeline (1), for supporting an inflatable annular sleeve (9), which extends inwards to the centre of the pipeline upon its inflation. The holder is provided as a unit which is sealed relative to the pipeline via an associated seal (5) and inserted in the pipeline until it abuts a stop (6), with the inflatable annular sleeve secured to the holder at one axial end (11) and released from the holder at its opposite axial end (13) upon its inflation.
