<p>There is disclosed a valve actuator (10) for actuating a valve assembly, a method of coupling a valve actuator (10) to a valve assembly, to control the flow of a fluid through a conduit and a valve adaptor (16). The actuator (10) is coupled to a valve housing of the valve assembly by an adaptor in the form of a base plate (16). In a preferred embodiment, the base plate (16) mounts a pinion (42) in a body (12) of the actuator, offering time and cost saving as well as pinion adaptability for coupling to valves of different types. Furthermore, the base plate (16) is releasably coupled to the actuator body (12) and to a flange of the valve housing. This allows a single type of actuator body (12) to be provided for coupling to different valve housings, to accommodate world-wide requirements concerning, amongst other parameters, mounting hole and bolt diameters, thread pitch, thread depth, and major and minor thread diameters. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a one-piece pinion (42) for use in a rack and pinion assembly (42; 40) of a valve actuator (10).</p> |
