The invention relates to a restraint system comprising at least one belt tightener system. Said restraint system is designed for a safety belt for a vehicle passenger and is characterised in that at least one of the belt articulation or reversing points can be displaced by means of the belt tightener system. The invention also relates to a control device that can be operated by a pyrotechnic propelling charge and is actively connected to the articulation or reversing point. In order to improve the vehicle passenger safety, said belt tightener system (4, 24, 27, 33, 34) is placed in a gastight chamber in fluid communication with an inflatable restraint device.
