PURPOSE: An engine control method in cool starting is provided to prevent an engine stall due to sudden increase of a load by increasing amounts of air and fuel via sensing of temperature of cooling water in a cool state upon engaging a clutch. CONSTITUTION: An engine is operated by a driver together with a calculation of amounts of air and fuel by an ECU(electrical control unit). After the warm-up, the driver engages a clutch in order to operate a car. When the clutch is engaged by the driver, a load applied to the engine is increased by a transmission of engine power to a transmission, which generates an engine stall. In order to prevent engine stall, temperature of cooling water is identified to be sub-zero 20deg.C and then ON/OFF switch is operated to cut off the clutch. After cutoff of the clutch, the output of engine is increased through an increasingly correction of amounts of air and fuel, and then the clutch is engaged again. When the temperature of the cooling water exceeds sub-zero 20deg.C, a control for the amounts of air and fuel is terminated.
