PURPOSE: Disclosed is a new compound having remarkable sensibility for visible light and remarkable luminescence and useful for photopolymerization of an organic compound, an organic electroluminescent element, a dye laser or the like. CONSTITUTION: This compound is represented by formula I£R1 to R4 are each H, a (substituted) aliphatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon; X is a (substituted) heterocyclic group| e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I can be obtained by several methods but, if economy is important, a method including a 4-cyanidation step where a compound of formula III having R1 to R4 and X each corresponding to formula I is reacted with (B) a cyanidation agent in (C) a mixture of (i) a hydrophilic solvent and (ii) water is preferable. The component B can be sodium cyanide, potassium cyanide, cyanohydrin or the like. The component can be methanol, N, N- dimethylformamide or the like.
