PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anisotropic permanent magnet, having an improved peak value for a surface magnetic field, which is especially suitable for a magnet for signals. SOLUTION: A permanent magnet, having at least one working face and anisotropic magnet which has such an orientation, and at the same time, is so magnetized that an axis for easy magnetization of the magnetic powder the permanent magnet, is made so as to enter the inside of the magnet from the working face and come back to the working face again. In this magnet, a reference magnetic pole and a background opposite magnetic pole are disposed like island and sea, with the ratio of the area of the reference magnetic pole to the background opposite magnetic pole being 9 to 90:91 to 10.
