<p>Silicon compounds of general formula (1) which are excellent in compatibility with other liquid crystal materials, lowly viscous and improved in threshold voltage; liquid crystal compositions; and liquid crystal displays, wherein A, A1, A2 and A3 are each a 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene or 1,4-phenylene group in which the ring-constituent -CH2- groups which are not adjacent to each other may be each replaced by -O- and the ring-constituent -CH= groups may be each replaced by -N= and the ring of which may be halogenated; Z1, Z2 and Z3 are each a single bond, -(CH2)2-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -SiH2CH2- or -CH2SiH2-, with the proviso that at least one of them is -SiH2CH2- or -CH2SiH2-; m, n and o are each 0 or 1 and satisfy the relationship: m + n + o ≥ 1; and Ra and Rb are each C1-C20 alkyl or hydrogen, the -CH2- groups of the alkyl being each optionally replaced by -O-, -CH = CH-, or -C C- to the exclusion of simultaneous replacement of -CH2- groups adjacent to each other by -O- groups.</p> |
