The automobile power unit comprises a thermal engine (12) and a transmission (14). A rear face (16) of the longitudinal engine block (18) is rigidly connected to a front face (20) of a transmission bell housing (22) for the flywheel. At right angles to the fixing plane of an oil sump (28) under the engine block are two horizontal corner irons (26) each comprising a longitudinal front first branch rigidly fixed to the engine block and a second transverse rear branch rigidly fixed to the bell housing. The first front branches of the two corner irons are rigidly fixed to a brace (42) interposed vertically between the engine block and the oil sump.
