PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair cosmetic having an improved set retention and an excellent conditioning effect by making the hair cosmetic include a crosslinking type polymer consisting of an N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide monomer as an essential component. SOLUTION: This hair cosmetic comprises a crosslinking type polymer obtained by polymerizing (A) 30-99.995 mol% of an N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide monomer of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, methyl or the like; R3 and R4 are each H or methyl) with (B) 0-69.995 mol% of at least one of a compound of formula II [A is a 1-4C hydroxyalkyl, COOR6 (R6 is a 1-24C alkyl or the like) or the like], a (meth)acrylic acid amine-based monomer of formula III (B is an ether, an ester bond or the like; R13 is a 1-4C alkylene or the like; R14 and R15 are each methyl or ethyl) and/or their quaternary salts, etc., and (C) 0.005-5 mol% of a crosslinkable vinyl monomer. The amount of the polymer formulated is preferably 0.01-40 mass%.
