PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously realize smooth vertical movement of a valve element and stable posture thereof at the time of full closing. SOLUTION: This gate valve is provided with; a valve element 31 disposed inside a valve casing 12; a pair of guide rails 36 arranged in opposed relation at the inner side of the valve casing 12 for guiding the valve element 31 between a full open position and a full close position of a passage 35 of the valve casing 12; and guide grooves, each engaging with the guide rail 36 and being provided to both the sides of the valve element 31. A specified clearanceαis formed between a guide face 36a of the guide rail 36 and the bottom face of the guide groove, and the terminal position of the guide rail 36 is provided with a posture corrective part 39 which is in sliding contact with the bottom face of the guide groove.
