PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption in a sleep mode in which processes of respective sections are once stopped without turning off a power supply. SOLUTION: TOC data which are index information of an optical disk are stored in a buffer RAM 7 of the optical disk reproducing apparatus. A clock cannot be stopped conventionally to hold the stored content, but in this apparatus a second buffer RAM 23 is provided to preserve data such as the TOC data that are also used after recovering from the sleep mode, and the buffer RAM 7 is not refreshed in the sleep mode and the stored content thereof is erased. Thus, power consumption otherwise required for the refresh operation in the sleep mode can be reduced.
