PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject new compound which is a biphenyl having nitro group and a perfluorooxy group in each phenyl group and useful as a raw material for fluorine-containing diamino-aromatic resins excellent in heat and chemical resistances, water repellency, low permittivity and low refractivity. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [Rf1 and Rf2 are each CnF2n+1 (n is 6-12); CnF2n-1, CnF2n-3, C6F5, C10F7 or C14F9; Hs of the biphenyl may be substituted with a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, F, Cl or Br], e.g. 2,2'- dinitro-4,4'-diperfluorononenyloxybiphenyl. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting (A) a compound represented by formula II (e.g. 4,4'- dihydroxy-2,2'-dinitrobiphenyl) with (C) a perfluoro compound (e.g. a compound represented by formula III or IV) in the presence of (B) an organic solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide).
