PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition excellent in detergency, foaming power and rinsability by incorporating an N-alkyl or N-alkenyl amino acid(salt) and an N-alkyl-N,N-di(carboxyalkyl)amine(salt) in a specified wt. ratio into the same. SOLUTION: This composition comprises 100 pts.wt. N-alkyl or N-alkenyl amino acid(salt) of the formula: R1NH(CH2)mCOOM1 and 0.5-70 pts.wt. N-alkyl-N, N-di(carboxyalkyl)amine(salt) of the formula. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each a 6-22C alkyl or alkenyl; m, p and q are each 1 or 2; and M1 to M3 are each H, an alkali metal ion, ammonium, a (2-3C) alkanol group-containing mono-, di or trialkanolamine group, (1-5C) alkyl-substituted ammonium or a basic amino group-derived cation). A sequestering agent is also incorporated, if necessary.
