An electronic device connected to a network compatible with Plug-and-Play and Hot Play and capable of controlling other electronic devices, comprising a communication route detection means for detecting a communication route between electronic devices being used or reserved for use and a notification means for notifying the result of a detection by the communication route detection means, wherein a communication route between electronic devices in communication with each other is detected and electronic devices on the communication route are notified, using the notification means, to a user as devices not to be disconnected from the network. Such a design can prevent an accident that a user pulls out a cable inadvertently from an electronic device that must not be disconnected from a network to cut off the network.
