PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an α,β-unsaturated nitrile in high yield by separating and recovering the reaction-formed nitrile by a method comprising gas-phase catalytic oxidation of an alkane with ammonia in the presence of a complex metal oxide catalyst and subsequently feeding a gaseous effluent into a reactor. SOLUTION: A multistage reactor comprising two reaction units linked together is used. (A) Into the reactor containing a complex metal oxide catalyst is fed a reaction gas containing 4-50 vol.% of a 3-8C alkane and having compounding ratios of alkane:ammonia:oxygen:a dilution gas=1:(0.1-1.5):(0.5-3.5): (0-20), and the alkane is subjected to a gas-phase catalytic oxidation with ammonia, (B) the nitrile produced by the reaction is separated and recovered, (C) 30-92 vol.% of the gaseous effluent which remains after the step B in the first stage reaction unit is fed to the step A of the first stage reactor, and the remaining part of the gaseous effluent is fed to the step A of the second stage reactor, respectively, without separating and recovering the gaseous component mainly composed of unreacted alkane, and (D) in the second stage reaction unit, a gaseous effluent is discharged to the outside of the reaction system. Thus, the objective compound is produced. |
