PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method in a material testing apparatus which prevents the integrated value of an integral control operation from being too large after a material test piece is removed, and to provide a material testing apparatus. SOLUTION: In this material testing apparatus, a load is applied to a material test piece 14 by an actuator 13, the load of the material test piece is detected by a sensor 16, and the detection signal of the sensor is fed back. The difference signal (Er) between the detection signal from the sensor and a control target input signal (Ei) is proportionated and integrated so as to be inputted to the actuator. When an input (i) to the actuator becomes larger than an integration release value, an integral function is stopped.
