PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a 1α,24-dihydroxyvitamin D3 for treatment of renal failure and osteoporosis, or the like, by adding 1α-hydroxyvitamin D3 to a solution containing a microbial cell hydroxylating vitamin Ds or its enzyme and hyroxylating hydrogen atom at 24-position thereof. SOLUTION: 1α-Hydroxyvitamin D3 is added to a solution containing a microbial cell hydroxylating vitamin Ds comprising a microorganism belonging to the genus Nocardia, Streptomyces or Amycolata [e.g. Nocardia autotrophica N-102 (FERM BP-1573)] or an enzyme produced by the microbial cell, and as necessary, cyclodextrins and a surfactant are added thereto and hydrogen atom at 24 position of 1α-hydroxyvitamin D3 is converted to hydroxyl group to inexpensively provide the objective 1α,24-dihydroxyvitamin D3 having same activity as 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and useful for treatment of renal failure (renal failure rachitis, or the like), osteoporosis, or the like, in large amount. |
