PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce pentafluoropropionyl fluoride useful as a raw material for a perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether) in high yield while suppressing the production of byproducts by isomerizing hexafluoropropylene oxide(HFPO). SOLUTION: HFPO is isomerized in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. triethylamine), tetrahydrofuran(THF) and >=1 wt.% hexafluoropropylene(HFP) based on the amount of the HFPO in a liquid phase to provide the objective pentafluoropropionyl fluoride. The amount of the HFP is preferably 2-70% of that of the HFPO. The HFPO containing the HFP is preferably the HFPO produced by an oxidation reaction of the HFP. The catalyst is preferably a nitrogen-containing compound having no active hydrogen bonded to the nitrogen atom, and the amount of the catalyst is preferably 0.1-10 wt.% based on the total weight of the THF and the catalyst. The reaction temperature is preferably 0-60 deg.C, and the reaction pressure is preferably normal pressure to 5 kg/cm2 (gauge pressure). |
