PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent hair tonic which has a new action mechanism different from those of conventional hair tonics, and to provide a method for screening a substance having a hair-restoring action. SOLUTION: This hair tonic contains as an active ingredient a compound which exhibits an action for stimulating a purine receptor such as an adenosine receptor or an ATP receptor, an action for reinforcing the action for stimulating the purine receptor, and an action for releasing a purine receptor-stimulating compound such as adenosine, an adenosine derivative or an adenosine metabolite from cells. The method for screening a hair-restoring action comprises adding a test substance to a cell transformed with an ABC transporter gene and a receptor gene for a purine derivative and then measuring the amount of calcium flowing in the cell as an index.
