PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display the positions of unoccupied parking spaces at the entrance of a parking lot or a prescribed location and, at the same time, to display the parking position of the vehicle of a driver who forgets the parking position of his vehicle when the driver inputs the car number of his vehicle. SOLUTION: A position guiding and monitoring device is provided with a car number reader 4 which recognizes the positions of unoccupied parking spaces in a large-scale parking lot in which automobiles 1 are planarly parked in many rows in an extensive lot and, at the same time, recognizes the parking positions of the automobiles 1 in connection with the car numbers of the automobiles 1, a central control board 21 which receives data from the reader 4 and stores the received data, and a parking position retrieving and displaying board 22 which is connected to the control board 21 and displays the parking position of an automobile when the driver of the automobile inputs the car number of his automobile.
