PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect the quantity of remaining paper accomodated in a paper cassette by mounting a signal generating means for generating a signal for automatically detecting the distortion of a bottom part of the cassette corresponding to a weight of the remaining paper, on a bottom part of the cassette. SOLUTION: A signal generating means (distortion meter) 16 is mounted on a pressing-up plate 22 mounted on a bottom part in a paper cassette 10. The distortion meter 16 is located on a center of an upper surface of the pressing-up plate 22, and an upper surface of the distortion meter 16 is flush with an upper surface of the pressing-up plate 22. The upper surface part of the distortion member 16 is provided with a distortion measuring element (for example, strain gauge), and a signal corresponding to the weight of the paper remained in the paper cassette 10 is generated by the measurement element. A signal of the paper quantity detected by the distortion meter 16 is transmitted to a control part 40 through an output terminal 17 and an input terminal 18, and the paper quantity is displayed on a display part 41, so that an operator can confirm the paper quantity remaining in an image forming device.
