A removable foot protection system comprises a sole member which may be of multiple element construction comprising a tread (72), and movable overlappi ng plates (62, 64). Around the periphery of the sole member are support strips (68, 73) to (75), which can in use engage spaced peripheral portions of the horse's hoof.
