DEVICE AND METHOD FOR POLISHING FERRULE END FACE OF PHOTO CONNECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve polishing precision for the end face of a ferrule by uniformly controlling the press force of the individual ferrule against the polishing surface plate of a polishing device for a photo connector end face. SOLUTION: A polishing device to polish a ferrule end face in a protrusion spherical surface comprises a polishing device body to be freely movable in an XY plane as the polishing surface plate 4 side is rotated; a cylinder block mechanism 3 having a plurality of independent press pressure mechanisms 13 arranged in an annular shape; a height regulating mechanism for the cylinder block mechanism 3; and a press pressure mechanism 13 having a piston shaft 16 pushed vertically to the polishing surface plate 4 by an air cylinder 17. A ferrule 10 is mounted on the tip part of the press pressure mechanism 13 through a holding plate 20. Since a proper pressure is exerted on each ferrule 10 by the air cylinder 17 and pressed against the polishing surface plate 4, proper polishing is practicable even when the overall length of the ferrule 10 is different. Further, a polishing process is simplified by selecting a material of an abrasive particle.
