<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an edit point when re-encoding image data. <P>SOLUTION: In step S1, non-compressed image data are supplied, and in step S2, the number of frames in the non-compressed image data is counted. In step S3, encoding processing is performed on the supplied non-compressed image data. In step S4, information stored in a memory and specifying an encoding device, and the count value of the frames are acquired and in step S6, the supplied additional encoding information is combined with the encoded data and output. In step S7, it is judged whether the supply of the non-compressed image data is finished and if it is judged that the supply is not finished yet, processing is returned to step S2 but if it is judged that the supply has is finished, processing ends.
