PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact tilt cylinder device for an outboard engine. SOLUTION: A piston 23 having a piston rod 25 extended to an outboard engine side and a freely piston 24 are freely movably inserted into a cylinder 22, oil chambers S1, S2 and S3 are provided in the cylinder 22, a pressure accumulation chamber S4 is provided to surround the cylinder 22, a third communication passage is formed from the piston 23 to the free piston 24, the third communication passage is provided with a second relief valve 27 opened when the oil chamber S3 exceeds a set pressure, and this second relief valve 27 is provided with an opening/closing mechanism 28. Thus, compared with the conventional case where the third communication passage, the second relief valve and the manual opening/closing mechanism are provided outside the cylinder, a protruded portion is eliminated, and a tilt cylinder device is manufactured compact. Also, since the piston rod is extended from the piston to the outboard engine side, the dipping of the piston rod in water is prevented.
