PURPOSE: A digital non-linear correcting method and apparatus is provided to minimize an error according to a non-linear correction by increasing the number of a section in a non-linear characteristic curve. CONSTITUTION: A significance signal generator(100) decodes an input digital signal and detects the first significance having a greatest digital signal value, a significance adjacent to the first significance. A section detector(102) judges whether the input digital signal is equal to or greater than 2k-g and less than 2k+g, detects a section which the digital signal belongs to according to a comparison result. The first selector(104) selectively outputs correcting signals Y(k+1), Y(k), and Y(k-1) corresponding to 2¬R+1+1, 2¬R, and 2¬R-1 among 2¬n correcting signals which correspond to 2¬n digital values which the digital has in response to the second selecting signal. A decoder(140) decodes the input digital signal, detects 2¬R, and 2¬R-1 and 2¬R-2 and the second selecting signal corresponding the detected values.
