<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible tyo use an optical demultiplexer in such an application that a high speed optical signal can be switched to be inserted or extracted without loss, and is, moreover, desired to be transmitted while being extracted. SOLUTION: In an optical demultiplexing circuit consisting of two pairs of arrayed waveguide gratings 1, 2 and plural 2×2 waveguide optical switches, each 2×2 optical switch comprises two 1×2 optical branching elements 18, four optical gates 19, and two 2×1 optical multiplexing elements 21. And, an output of a 1st optical branching element 18 is coupled to one of the input ports of each optical multiplexing element 21 via the optical gate 19, and an output of a 2nd optical branching element 18 is coupled to the other input port of each optical branching element 21 via the optical gate 19.</p> |
