PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ink from adhering to the forward end of an ejection electrode by circulating the ink and cleaning the forward end of the ejection electrode periodically. SOLUTION: Ink liquid level is increased periodically until the forward end of a recording electrode is wetted and, under a state where adhering matters can be separated easily from the forward end of the recording electrode, a voltage is applied to the recording electrode ender to eject ink thus removing the adhering matters. An ink recovery member is located to avoid a recording medium carrying passage 8. In case of a scan type head, a recording head 2 is shifted to a position facing the ink recovery member when printing is not conducted and, after ink supply to an ink ejecting part 5 is increased, ink is ejected toward the ink recovery member at that position. In case of line type head, the recording head 2 is retracted when printing is not conducted and then the ink recovery member is shifted between the recording medium carrying passage 8 and the recording head 2. Thereafter, ink supply to an ink ejecting part 5 is increased and ink is ejected toward the ink recovery member at that position. |
