The compressor (10) is contained in a compressor housing (12), and there is a drive housing containing an electric motor. The housings form a single modular unit. The compressor housing has an integral tubular connection socket (30) in the area of the piston (26), to accommodate the cylinder (28). The socket has a smaller edge section (32) on the side away from the compressor housing. The edge section is deformable so that it can be fitted over a flange (40) of an outlet head (34) of the compressor.
