PURPOSE: A method for compensating channel distortion and an apparatus thereof are provided to perform equalization by using the training sequence and the data. CONSTITUTION: A method for compensating channel distortion includes first through forth steps. At the first step, a DC(direct current) value included in the received signal is calculated(602). At the second step(605), the calculated DC value is read with a predetermined interval and the difference between the DC value and the previous value is detected, and whether a motion ghost is present on a channel is determined according to the DC difference. At the third step(608), equalization is performed at a training sequence mode when it is determined that there is no motion ghost on the screen. At the forth step(606), equalization is performed at a data mode when it is determined that there is motion ghost on the screen.
