PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with dropping-out of a back-up material and water leakage in an embedded joint structure for a highway bridge. SOLUTION: An expansion spacing 3 of a highway bridge is closed by a closing means 2 and pavement 4 on a bridge face is continuously executed so as to cover the closing means 2. The means 2 extend in the longitudinal direction of the joint while the means are arranged to face each other and provided with a pair of vertical plates whose lower distance gets gradually narrow as they go down, a back-up material 7 supported by both plates 6, 6 at the lower part thereof, and sealing materials 8, 9 filled on the back-up material 7 to close the distance between both plates. The upper back faces of the vertical plates 6, 6 are fixed without gap to the concrete structure 12 of a highway bridge or an abutment forming an expansion spacing 3 for a joint.
