PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting a horizontal synchronous signal of a digital television is provided to accurately detect a horizontal synchronous signal in case that the signal is distorted by detecting horizontal synchronous signals of 4 symbols transformed by a ghost including a horizontal synchronous signal pattern, and by simultaneously detecting a right and a left data symbol of a section. CONSTITUTION: A segment correlation unit(51) detects a pattern of a horizontal synchronous signal in case that a ghost is inserted using the most significant bit and a control signal, and outputs a logic signal. A segment integration unit(52) continuously adds up output data of the segment correlation unit(51) at 832 symbol intervals and divides a horizontal synchronizing section and a data section. A segment slicer(53) compares an output of the segment integration unit(52) with a specific threshold. A segment decoder(54) checks whether a horizontal synchronizing section outputted from the segment slicer(53) and provides a horizontal synchronous signal to another block.
